Circa the 1960s, The Vault began life as an ANZ bank, one of several lining a busy Wentworth Street in Port Kembla. Back then, the strip was a thriving business hub for Wollongong, but time and changing fortunes reshaped the neighbourhood.

Around 2000–01, Lou and Jan Belancic bought the old bank and transformed it into a hugely successful dance club and cabaret — The Vault. When Lou and Jan put the venue up for sale in 2016, Dave was hunting for a new challenge. He saw The Vault as a chance to bring all his hobbies and passions together under one roof. With a lifetime in radio, sound and entertainment — plus a deep love of food and hospitality — it felt like the perfect fit.

With a long history of cheeky, exhilarating and downright memorable entertainment, The Vault continues to be one of the Illawarra’s most beloved venues. Dave has shaped it into a place where locals can enjoy standout shows, good food and drinks, and an atmosphere built on connection.

Whether you’re chasing country music or heavy metal, acoustic sets, burlesque, variety shows, or even a unique spot for your own private function, you’ll find it at The Vault
