Circa 1960s, The Vault started out as an ANZ bank, one of a handful on a busy Wentworth Street Port Kembla. Then, it was the business hub of Wollongong, but history took its toll on the strip. Around 2000/01, Lou and Jan Belancic purchased the property and turned it into a hugely successful dance club and cabaret – The Vault.
Stories abound of exploits at The Vault; Merrigong Theatre held many memorable events within its walls, even current owner Dave was cable-tied to a chair in the main room at The Vault on his buck’s night in 2006 – by none other than Suellen, one of his party that evening.
Fast forward to late 2016 - when Lou and Jan put The Vault up for sale, Suellen and Dave were on the lookout for a new adventure and challenge. They saw The Vault as an opportuning to exercise all their hobbies and interests, all at once! Dave has been involved in the radio, sound and entertainment business all his life, Suellen a champion of interior design, renovating, recycling and styling. Both have a deep love of food, hospitality and a nice glass of red. Or something.
They embarked on a remodelling of the venue with a vision to create something that they themselves, would like to go to. Suellen’s eye for detail saw extensive work completed on both bathrooms, mezzanine level, carpet, tiling and overall colour palette, painting and detailing, while Dave oversaw all the lighting, rigging and sound redesign. Dave and his dad Eric built the new custom stage with genuine Bluescope steel with help from friend, and fortunately expert welder, Marco Manea. Kitchen and bar are both an ongoing argument between Suellen and Dave, but as usual, Suellen will have her way. For Dave, it’s just sport! But Suellen will win.
With a history of naughty, exhilarating and hilarious entertainment, The Vault will continue its tradition of being one of the best venues in the Illawarra. Suellen and Dave aim to provide a local venue for local people who will enjoy incredible local entertainment, great food and drinks and an atmosphere of connection.

The Vault is at 72-74 Wentworth Street in the heart of Port Kembla.
We have plenty of street parking and a council car park around the corner; the train station is only a short walk and there's a taxi rank 75 metres from the door.
